Evaluation of Creatine Kinase as a Diagnostic Tool for Thyroid Function
نویسندگان
چکیده
Indian Journal of Clinical Practice, Vol. 23, No. 4, September 2012 Thyroid gland is located in the neck, anterior to trachea. It consists of two lobes that are connected by an isthmus. The gland produces hormones which play a great role in control of basal metabolic rate (BMR), general body metabolism, growth, development and tissue differentiation. Thyroid dysfunction is one of the most common endocrinological disorders. Consequently, abnormalities of these hormones frequently involve many organ systems producing diverse clinical signs and symptoms which are generally nonspecific. Thus confirmation of a provisional diagnosis of thyroid disorder rests largely upon biochemical parameters.1

In Vitro Inhibition of Human Sperm Creatine Kinase by Nicotine, Cotinine and Cadmium, as a Mechanism in Smoker Men Infertility
Background Nicotine, cotinine and cadmium are harmful components of cigarettes that have an effect on human reproductive function. Although the effects of cigarette smoke on male reproductive function is characterized in several articles its mechanism of action is still unknown. In the present study, we investigate the effect of nicotine, cotinine and cadmium on human sperm creatine kinase acti...
متن کاملEvaluation of cardiac troponin I (cTnI), electrocardiography, creatine kinase (CK) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) in diagnosis of selenium deficiency in Markhoz goat kids breed
BACKGROUND: Cardiac Troponin I (cTnI) is known as a cardiac biomarker in determining the myocardial damage of diseases which affect the heart muscle. OBJECTIVES: This study aims to evaluate the serum cTnI concentration in Markhoz Breed goats suffering selenium (Se) deficiency and its correlation with electrocardiographic parameters, and activity of creatine kinase (CK) and aspartate aminotransf...
متن کاملElectrophysiologic and clinico-pathologic characteristics of statin-induced muscle injury
Objective(s):In this study, we aimed at evaluation of electrophysiological and histopathalogical characteristics of statin-induced muscle injury as well as clinical features of patients who develop this condition in terms of frequency and pattern of evolution. Materials and Methods: Forty patients (age 39-74 years) including 25 subjects with type 2 diabetes mellitus, 9 with cardiovascular disea...
متن کاملLevels of C-reactive protein, creatine kinase-muscle and aldolase A are suitable biomarkers to detect the risk factors for osteoarthritic disorders: A novel diagnostic protocol
Background: C-reactive protein (CRP), creatine kinase-muscle (CK-MM) and aldolase A (AldoA) levels are predicted to be realistic biomarkers of osteoarthritic disorders (OADs). The objective of the study was to evaluate the levels of CRP, CK-MM, and AldoA and determine their correlations with risk factors such as inflammation, muscle degeneration, and skeletal muscle damage for OADs. Methods: B...
متن کاملResistance to thyroid hormone due to defective thyroid receptor alpha
Thyroid hormones act via nuclear receptors (TRα1, TRβ1, TRβ2) with differing tissue distribution; the role of α2 protein, derived from the same gene locus as TRα1, is unclear. Resistance to thyroid hormone alpha (RTHα) is characterised by tissue-specific hypothyroidism associated with near-normal thyroid function tests. Clinical features include dysmorphic facies, skeletal dysplasia (macrocepha...
